How a Felted Hat is Made
Wet felting involves applying extremely hot water, soap, and agitation to the layers of carded wool. The wool will eventually "felt" where the fibers interlock and shrink forming a durable piece of nonwoven material. The wool for the yardage is hand carded and then wet felted by my own hands. After acheiving an evenly tight felt yardage, the pattern pieces are cut out and the hat is sewn together on the sewing machine.
I use both skilled processes of wet felting and needle felting, to create my beautiful one-of-a-kind felted hats.
